Hajj is a sacred journey to Makkah and one of the 5 pillars of Islam, and a fundamental component of islamic faith. Physical and Financial capability

The key requirement for hajj is the physical and financial capability to perform pilgrimage. Islam emphasizes practicality and does not enforce duties that exceed a person’s capability. Muslims need to be in good physical condition to meet the physical requirements of hajj – including long walks, prolonged standing, and the difficulties of managing large crowds in a challenging setting. Older adults, sick, or those with physical limitations are not required to undertake hajj. Similarly, financial preparedness is an essential key. A Muslim should possess adequate resources to manage the expenses of the journey, such as travel, accommodations, and other essential costs. This financial security must include making sure that their family is looked after while they are away. If undertaking hajj would create excessive financial pressure on a family, the requirement is lifted. Furthermore, Islam places great importance on repaying debts; those who are in debt are not required to undertake hajj unless certain conditions are fulfilled, including obtaining the creditor’s consent or proving they can handle both duties without neglecting their financial obligations.

Muslims Adulthood and Intention

Hajj is obligatory solely for adult Muslims, specifically for those who have attained the age of maturity (puberty). Although children are welcome to join the pilgrimage, their participation does not complete the required hajj. For adults, having the intention (niyyah) to sincerely perform hajj for Allah’s sake is essential. Conditions for proxy Pilgrimage
